The Cake Table is a 4ft x 3ft display table supplied dressed, and it exists because the cake cutting is one of the two or three moments at any celebration that everybody photographs. Most events improvise it: the cake ends up on a spare dining table, a side table, or the end of the buffet, and the photographs show whatever was already on that surface. A dedicated table solves three things at once. It is sized for the job — big enough for a tiered cake, the knife, glasses and a few flowers, small enough not to look empty around a single cake, which is exactly what a 6ft banqueting table does. It is dressed, so nothing needs improvising on the morning. And it can be positioned as a focal point rather than wherever there happened to be room. Where you put it decides how good the photographs are: give it a clean background, leave clear space in front for a crowd to gather and for a photographer to step back, and light it if the cutting happens after dark.
