The Food/Buffet Serving Table is a 6ft x 2ft table built for service rather than seating. The difference from a dining table is what it has to take: chafing dishes, full serving platters, drinks urns and the constant handling of a catering line, plus spills that need wiping rather than laundering. It is designed for that load and cleans down easily between courses. Plan buffet tables by the line rather than by the dish. A single-sided buffet serves roughly 60 to 80 guests per line before queues become the main feature of your event, so at 150 guests you want two lines — either two separate runs or one run served from both sides. Allow a table per major course grouping plus one for drinks, and leave at least a metre of clear space in front for guests to move along. Position the line so it does not cut across the route between seating and the bar or the exits. Setup takes about 5 minutes per table.
