We pitch a spacious canvas bell tent and fit it out inside with several teepee beds, layered rugs, floor cushions, lanterns and warm fairy lights — a sheltered, cosy hideaway where a group of children can sleep out under canvas without anyone being rained on or chilly. It's the closest thing to real camping while staying safely at home, with the bell tent comfortably housing a small group of sleepover guests. We handle the full pitch and styling in the afternoon and strike the tent the next morning. A garden or large flat outdoor space and a dry-weather plan are all we need.
